My second playthrough had different notes and letters than I got the first time around, and none of them had the mistakes that I saw the first time. As I was playing, the game was regularly being updated with new letters, so I hope these will fix the little grammatical errors and things that caused all my issues with the game. It’s hard to make an educational game that is actually exciting to play, but Grammarian Ltd managed. You have to battle your coworkers for raises and promotions. I ended up having to start the game over because I’d dug myself into a hole that I couldn’t get out of. I was losing a little bit of money every day in this upgraded living space, and I never could save enough money to move to a cheaper place even though I walked every day to save money and got some awesome win streaks going for extra cash. This was pretty upsetting to me.Īnother thing I disliked about this game was that it allowed me to purchase an apartment that I actually didn’t have enough money to pay the rent for.
It was pretty infuriating, given that those reflexive pronouns were technically correct. I lost my correct answer streak because I chose one of the “incorrect” ones. So I had to guess which ones were the ones Grammarian Ltd wanted me to choose. The prompt was to choose three of these pronouns from the letter, but the letter contained six. One of the biggest issues I had was a letter where reflexive pronouns were to be highlighted. There were some obvious grammatical errors that really stuck out, and they weren’t the kind that players were supposed to correct. While grammar problems in games usually only bother me a little, incorrect English in a game that is all about teaching proper English though is a big no-no. That being said, not all was perfect in the world of Grammarian Ltd.

I played this game for much longer than I had to, mostly because I wanted to upgrade my apartment as much as possible. I like the characters and the actual gameplay of interacting with the letters was entertaining. It has a cartoonish, anime style that is attractive, and the game is extremely colorful without being blinding or hard to read. I loved the look of Grammarian Ltd as well. Each day, you get a new set of English rules to help you with your job. The simulation half where I got to decorate my apartment, choose new snacks, and even upgrade my apartment made this quite fun to play. I haven’t had a whole lot of interaction with many educational games, but those I’ve been forced to play during my school career were always pretty lacklustre. Money can also be used to get players to their work faster by paying for bus fares or renting a bike instead of walking. Money can be used to upgrade the player’s apartment, decorate, and buy items that boost your mood or stamina. The dropdowns allow you to fix the incorrect grammar. Players lose mood points when they make too many mistakes, but they gain money and mood for correct answers and correct answer streaks. Sometimes, it only asks for you to highlight a certain type of word, but often you have to fix phrases or words from a dropdown menu.
Next, your Grammarian employee will have a selection of notes to edit. As the days progress, these concepts get harder and harder. It explains today’s concept, covering everything from plural nouns to possessives and other important parts of speech in English. Next, to begin a workday, players click on the brief. There is currently only one girl character and one boy character to choose from, but these little anime-like people are both adorable. In order to play Grammarian Ltd, you first need to choose a character. In order to do that, players first have to correctly markup several letters that pass across your desk. You begin at the bottom rungs of Grammarian society, but you soon get the opportunity to battle others for promotions. The Grammar police are real in this world. This company came into being after the new President of the United States passes a law that every email, text, letter, or other correspondence needs to have perfect grammar, and you have been hired as one of the many that reviews other people’s letters to ensure they are up to code. You are thrust into the world of the Grammarian, the country’s leading grammar reviewer. Players are a young new hire that has to review all documents for grammatical mistakes, and they get paid for every right answer. Grammarian Ltd is an educational title that combines learning with a job simulator.
